Dimos Day – April 26th, 2014
Dimos Day is a special day for both Pagewood and Waverley football clubs, where we remember a special guy and play in his honour. The game didn’t disappoint and it was a tense affair with emotions running high. It’s become a bit of a theme with us this season starting slow and we were a goal behind after 10 minutes with some poor marking on a corner. Despite Waverley going a goal up, we slowly started getting on top of them as the half went on and we were unlucky not to equalise before the break. The game plan didn’t change in the second half except for adding more intensity and pressure on the Waverley boys. We certainly did that and finally got the equaliser around the 60th minute with some great play by Daniel Levitt beating his man and putting in a cross at the far post with Remi Larmamdieu heading in. Unfortunately we didn’t hold onto that momentum and conceded within 5 minutes with a mistake at the back. To the credit of he boys, we just kept on going and kept pushing Waverley into their box and with so much pressure it was only a matter of time before we got the equaliser. A last minute penalty, calmly and coolly put away by Matthew Groth, was what we deserved and the game ended 2-2 and we retained the Dimos Shield for the first time!
